DjeuhDjoah & Lieutenant Nicholson

Monday, June 30th - 3 p.m./1 a.m. - WF Beach (Free)

To open the festival, the duo of magician-musicians presents “Danses Divines.” In the plural. The fourth album by DjeuhDjoah & Lieutenant Nicholson couldn’t have a more fitting title. Masters of emotion and feeling, the duo has always had a gift for conveying melancholy and nostalgia with precision. This time, however, all their energy is focused on a single mission: to take listeners by the hand—no, by the ear, of course!—and bring everyone back to the dance floor to explore a wide range of moods. And naturally, a variety of styles. Funk, Ndombolo, Electro, Hip Hop, or Zouk—each new rhythm seamlessly blends into the next, creating a dancefloor where they all come together.

Divinely light… but not too light. The two companions don’t shy away from tackling topics like trans identity, consent, economic hardship, and spirituality, while also sharing little stories of complicated, seemingly unsolvable love… that somehow end well.To bring these contemporary themes to life in words and music, they welcome Anthony Hilaire for Creole lyrics, Sarah Solo with pelvis-shaking soukous, Patrick Bebey on pygmy flute, and Grégoire Mahé to electrify DjeuhDjoah & Lieutenant Nicholson’s songs.Musical genres blend into a soundscape refined down to its tiniest details. On stage, the duo radiates infectious energy, turning every concert into a collective celebration of pure emotion and connection.

In a musical landscape often shaped by formulas, DjeuhDjoah and Lieutenant Nicholson offer a breath of fresh air, reminding us that music can be both demanding and joyful—rooted in rich traditions, yet firmly looking toward the future.
